What is Reiki?

Reiki (ray - key) is an ancient healing art, which was rediscovered in Japan in the early 1900's by Dr. Mikao Usui. Dr. Hayashi continued the work of Reiki, followed by Mrs. Takata, who brought Reiki to the West. The word Reiki means: Rei = universal intelligence, ki = life force. This universal life force is non-physical life energy, which permeates everything. In China it is known as Chi, in India as Prana. It plays an important role in our vitality of life.

In the Usui-System of Reiki initiations reawaken and reopen the channels within us. The healing energy is channeled through the crown of the head and passes through the upper energy centers into the heart center. From here it flows through the arms and hands into one self for self-healing, or into the receiver's body. It be-comes natural to touch and channel this healing energy when oneself or somebody else is in pain and assists in relieving that pain. The person being treated is not "healed " by the Reiki practitioner, but by the flowing life force of Reiki, channeled by the practitioner. Reiki is never sent, but is drawn from the universe. Since a certain amount of energy is stored in the practitioner, s/he is never drained of her/his own life energy, rather energized. Reiki protects the practitioner from taking on another person's disease.

A Reiki treatment restores balance and harmony in the body, bringing a sense of wholeness and well-being. It works on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level.

Reiki I Training:

We will start the morning with a few Yoga stretches and a guided meditation, designed to clear and balance our energy centers. You will learn the history of Reiki, how it works and how it is used. During the morning you will be initiated in the traditional Usui-Method of Reiki with four attunements, which will reopen the channels and energy centers in your body. This ceremony invites the universal life force to flow through you. It will create balance between the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual body. You will learn the Reiki hand positions for self-treatment and for treating another person. We will enjoy our practice on each other in the afternoon.

Please come rested. For our noontime break, bring a bag lunch. Healthy snacks, juice, and tea will be provided.

Reiki II Training:

We will start in the morning with a few Yoga stretches and a guided meditation. We will exchange group-Reiki treatments, and learn how to test and clear a chakra (energy-center). These exercises will prepare you to the next steps, when you learn the symbols and receive the Reiki II attunement. We‘ll then practice on each other, and finally concentrate on distant healing. Bring pictures of your loved ones and people in need, if you like.

Please come rested. For our noontime break, bring a bag lunch. Healthy snacks, juice, and tea will be provided.
