THE YOGA & AYURVEDA BLOG
EXPLORE INSIGHTS, TIPS, AND PRACTICES FOR HOLISTIC WELL-BEING
Hello Everyone!
Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season have arrived. I like to extend my gratitude and Love to all of you for practicing Yoga and Ayurveda with me! It is fun to bake and cook with the principles of Ayurveda in mind. Ayurvedic spices not only give you a rich and satisfying flavor, but also support your digestion and seasonal health. Here, in New England, we are happy to harvest our local winter veggies. Last year, I shared with you my favorite squash, filled with mushrooms, leaks, or chestnuts! It will definitely be on our table again! This year, I am sharing with you one of my favorite lighter meals: Baked Brussels Sprouts and Yam Puree. This works very well together with the recipes from last year (you can scroll down to Thanksgiving 2018!) Baked Brussels Sprouts: Cut the Brussels-sprouts in half. Sauté 2 tbsp of Kitchari spice mix (turmeric, curry, paprika, ginger, cumin, coriander) in 2 tbsp ghee, let it gently foam! Add the Brussels sprouts to the spiced ghee, add a tbsp of nutritional yeast, a tbsp of balsamic vinegar or wine. Toss them around until they are covered on all sides, distribute them onto a baking dish and bake them by 400F for 20 minutes. Yam-Puree: Peel yams, cut into ½ inch pieces. Sauté 2 tbsp of Kitchari spice mix (turmeric, curry, paprika, ginger, cumin, coriander) and I inch of fresh finely chopped ginger in 2 tbsp ghee. Add the yam pieces, toss them around, add a little water with a tbsp of nutritional yeast and let it simmer until soft. Now add ½ can of thick coconut cream and whip everything together until smooth. Enjoy!

This Saturday, you have the opportunity to join me from 1:00 - 3:30PM in an in-depth WS which draws from my over 30 years of experience with Yoga therapeutics, European medicinal herbs, home remedies, and the wisdom of ancient Ayurveda. In our workshop “Staying Well through the Winter”, I will introduce you to special kitchen spices that help keep negative winter symptoms at bay. I offer a purifying and vitalizing Yoga class with handouts so that you can practice keeping your joints loose. With pranayama breathing practices, Mudras, and Marma Chikitsa pressure points, you will have the tools to help you move through the Winter with more ease. Finally, I will teach you how to make certain foods, teas, and meals to help you remain energetic and warm through the Winter season. A few recipes will be provided for you to take home as well! Hope to see you at beautiful Shilo Farm in Eliot! :) We enjoyed New Hampshire’s Autumn colors with sunshine and winds. Slowly but surely, we get used to the lower temperatures! Our body reminds us of possible health issues! Let’s think about how we can take care of ourselves. The Winter season can bring issues, such as ‘The Winter Blues’ with tiredness & moodiness, insomnia or excess sleep, stiff or painful joints, and common colds and coughs. This workshop draws from experience of 30 years with Yoga therapeutics, European medicinal herbs, and home remedies. It also features the wisdom of ancient Rishis explaining Ayurveda. Kitchen spices, specific food ingredients, simple changes in lifestyle, purifying and vitalizing Yoga movements, breathing practices, Mudras, and Marma – pressure points help you move through the Winter with more ease!
