Dear Yoga friends!
As Thanksgiving draws near, my heart is brimming with gratitude for each one of you—my cherished family, dear friends, and the beautiful souls who share the journey of Yoga in my classes. Your unwavering support has been a source of inspiration and joy.
As we embrace the spirit of Thanksgiving, may your celebrations be filled with warmth and shared moments with loved ones. Take a pause to breathe deeply, reflecting on the abundance of what you are, what you have, and where you find yourself on this journey.
You can join me in spirit on the Friday morning after Thanksgiving as I share a delightful treat: Ayurvedic Pancakes! This vegan and gluten-free recipe is a gem adapted from the SoHum Mountain Retreat Center by Eberhard, and promises a nourishing start to your day.
Wishing you a Thanksgiving overflowing with Love, Gratitude, and  Joy!
Hannelore

Ingredients for 4 people:
4 tbsp Chia seeds soaked in 250 ml water as egg substitute
200 g flour (1/4 each coconut, almond, chickpea, cassava or buckwheat)
2 tsp psyllium husk
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp turmeric
6x shake pipali  or black pepper
12x shake cinnamon
20x shake cardamom
Optional: ½ tsp ginger powder or pinch of chili pepper
700 ml almond or macadamia milk (oat milk works as well)
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
add some sparkling water for consistency

Start ½ - 1 hour ahead of time with soaking the chia seeds in water.
Mix all dry ingredients, including all spices, in a large bowl. Then, add the soaked chia seeds with the water, sesame oil and balsamic vinegar, pour in the vegan milk, while stirring the emerging dough with a whisk. The dough should be rather soft. Add sparkling water while stirring to achieve the soft consistency.

Heat a large cast iron pan (works best for these pancakes) on medium heat. Place a large plate on the warming zone of the stove, warmed to medium or high setting, ready for the finished pancakes. Distribute coconut oil, sesame oil, butter, or ghee in the pan. The pancakes separate best from the pan with butter, but if it should be 100% vegan, another substitute will do. Place a heaping tablespoon full of dough into the pan for each pancake, flatten the dough with the spoon into 10-12 cm diameter small pancakes. 3 or 4 separate ones will fit in the pan, depending on its size. Set the timer to 3 minutes. When finished, flip the pancakes. Again, set to 3 minutes. When finished move the pancakes to the plate on the warming zone, add more oil or butter to the pan, and repeat until all dough is used up.
Enjoy!

Sunflowers from Hannelore's garden - representing the summer classes beginning.
 Hello, Everyone!

I can hardly believe how swiftly summer has swept by – what a remarkable and bustling season it has been! I trust you've had an enjoyable summer too.

A heartfelt thank you to all those who graced my summer party with their presence; it was a truly special occasion, and I relished the opportunity to connect with you in person! 😊

Several of you inquired about Beach Yoga, and I want to extend my sincerest apologies if it seemed like that idea slipped through the cracks. In fact, back in May, we had engaging discussions about when and where we could organize beach Yoga sessions. However, my schedule was fully booked throughout July, and I also received feedback from many of our local students who were planning to be away during August.

With that feedback in mind and the complex travel plans for everyone, I thoughtfully tailored our offerings for the season. Instead of Beach Yoga, I curated a week of five invigorating Yoga classes, complemented by two additional sessions, followed by three rejuvenating Self-Care classes! I do intend to continue with this supplement for beach yoga this coming term as well.

Join us for a rejuvenating start to the new semester of Yoga classes, beginning August 30th. Explore ancient Yoga philosophy, dive into ethical guidelines, and cultivate balance and harmony. Don't miss this enriching journey!

Our upcoming Yoga session will start on August 30th and 31st, maintaining our familiar schedule: Wednesdays at 5:00 PM and Thursdays at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM.

For our Annual Members, you're all set – simply use the link for our Zoom classes, which will arrive the day before your session.

For those who aren't Annual Members, please drop me an email to confirm your attendance. The flexible package of eight classes is priced at $122.

In our two 8-week courses, we'll delve into the profound teachings of ancient Yoga Philosophy. The Patanjali Yoga Sutras, steeped in Eastern Psychology and organized across four enlightening chapters, offer us new perspectives on our world, enhancing our ease and understanding.

As we embrace the eight limbs/disciplines of Yoga, we'll embark on a deeper exploration of the 10 moral disciplines, the Yamas & Niyamas. These ethical guidelines, when consciously integrated into our lives through reflection and awareness, liberate us from self-imposed limitations and usher in a sense of balance, harmony, and inner peace.

I'm eagerly looking forward to reuniting with you in our upcoming Yoga classes next week! Until then, take care and stay well. 😊🙏  Hannelore

GREETINGS FROM SOHUM RESORT!

6/18/2023

Greetings from North Carolina! Eberhard and I are currently having an incredible time at the SoHum Mountain Healing Resort, indulging in a rejuvenating Ayurveda Retreat. This hidden gem, formerly known as Sourwood Inn, is nestled in the lush forests of Elk Mountain, near Asheville. Founded by a team of Ayurvedic Practitioners and guided by the esteemed Dr. Lad (who has also established a new school and clinic in Asheville), the resort has been lovingly crafted and cared for with boundless creativity.

One of the highlights of our retreat has been the opportunity to stroll along the enchanting paths that wind through a beautiful pocket of nature. It's such a refreshing experience to connect with the natural surroundings.

After returning from Albuquerque, NM a decade ago, we mainly practiced our semi-annual PK, Ayurvedic Cleanse, at home. However, after this long period, we felt a strong desire to seek a consultation with Dr. Lad and visit my former Ayurveda classmate, Harish. So, we decided to book our stay at SoHum, and we're absolutely delighted that we did!

PANCHA KARMA!

As you may recall from my previous Yoga and Ayurvedic Cleanse Workshops, Pancha Karma is an effective regimen for cleansing the body from the inside out. To prepare for the retreat, we began with a week of Kitchari-like foods. Our journey to North Carolina began, and we were pleasantly surprised by the culinary creativity at SoHum! The chef goes above and beyond, not only serving delicious Kitchari, but also delighting us with Ayurvedic-inspired menus that feature fresh herbs, incredible sauces, and artistic presentations that rival a la carte de Paris! Each day, we were treated to a new meal that maintained the cleansing effects required for Pancha Karma. And to our delight, even a small piece of chocolate awaited us in our spacious and beautiful room, ensuring that all six tastes were included. What a delightful touch!

Another aspect that caught my attention was the sattvic (serene) atmosphere of the kitchen. It exuded a calmness and tranquility, with the chef serving each dish with a smile, showing genuine care and ease. It truly enhanced the overall experience!

In addition to the gourmet meals, we indulged in our daily "Whole Body Serenity" routine, which included Abhyanga, an oil massage, followed by a visit to the sweat box, then Siro Dhara, where a continuous warm stream of oil cascaded onto our foreheads, calming the nervous system and supporting the flow of energy to the Ajna Chakra. Needless to say, I often found myself dozing off in bliss! Furthermore, my dry eyes received the healing touch of Netra Basti, an oil bath, and I'm amazed at how refreshed and revitalized they feel. Even my floaters have diminished in size!

We also had the privilege of seeing Dr. Lad and receiving his advice. We had daily check-ups with a warm and caring Ayurvedic Practitioner, and enjoyed experiencing treatments like Janu Basti for aching knees, Prushta Basti for the spine, and many other Ayurvedic therapies aimed at promoting holistic well-being.

One of the memorable daily rituals we enjoyed was the Sunrise Ritual Homa, also known as Agnihotra, a beautiful fire ceremony infused with herbs and intentions. And of course, there were daily practices of Pranayama, Yoga sessions, enlightening lectures on living wisdom and nutrition, invigorating Forest Bathing, calming winding-down rituals, chanting, and ceremonies.

What truly made our stay exceptional was the genuine care, support, and authenticity exuded by everyone at SoHum Resort. We have formed beautiful connections and gained new friends along this transformative journey.

With much Love, Hannelore
